Preparing for RESO Field Updates on March 25

On the morning of March 25 our vendor, FBS, will be making updates in the MLS between 6-9 a.m. EDT as we become RESO (Real Estate Standards Organization) 2.0 compliant.

During this time, add/edit features could be unstable. We recommend refraining from utilizing the add/edit features in the MLS between 6-9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25 to avoid any instability from the updates. Below is the anticipated timeline of updates occurring on March 25.

  • 6am: New RESO Compliant fields will be added. Do not attempt to access Add/Edit.
  • 7am: Data will begin to be transferred to new fields.
  • 9am: Full functionality should be restored.

Please note these updates could take longer than anticipated, and existing data will continue to transfer for the remainder of the day. This could result in system slowdowns or other anomalies. Tech Support will communicate progress via the MLS Message Board on Tuesday, March 25.

Major Changes Coming to MLS – RESO Compliance

Beginning Tuesday, March 25, several field names in the Columbus & Central Ohio Regional MLS will change.

This RESO Compliance update will include significant changes to Sub-Type, Parking, Style, and Exterior Amenities fields. See details at bottom.

What does this mean for you?

Q: Let’s start from the top…What does it mean to be RESO Compliant?

A: RESO is the Real Estate Standards Organization. Its goal is to create a uniform way to exchange real estate data across the industry.

Q: What do you mean by “uniform data across the industry?”

A: There are hundreds of MLSs out there, and many of them use different terms. For example, a patio in one part of the country might be called a lanai in another. Consistent data fields allow consumers to compare properties across different platforms easily.

Q: Why is it important to do this now?

A: Over the past year, the Columbus & Central Ohio Regional MLS Board of Directors has prioritized RESO compliance. The changes we implement on March 25 will ensure we achieve RESO 2.0 compliance, aligning us with most other peer MLSs and industry partners.

Q: How will this impact my brokerage and my agents?

A: In the short term, you will need to familiarize yourself with the new changes and terminology. As with any changes, there will be a learning curve. In the long run, this will streamline the transaction process, benefiting brokers, agents, and consumers.

We ranked our top four changes below.

  1. EXTERIOR AMENITIES field:
    1. Split into Multiple fields
    2. New fields: Exterior Features, Other Structures, Patio and Porch Features, Fencing, Pool Features
    3. EXAMPLES:
      1. Additional Building and Storage Shed moved to “Other Structures”
      2. Deck, Patio, Screened Porch moved to “Patio and Porch Features”

    • This will display all 2000 characters of the newly expanded Property Description.
    • The previous default was “Agent Full 1-Page” which limits the characters displayed to maintain a single page format.
    • This change will not affect users who had previously selected a personal default.
    • Users can change their personal default by going to Menu > General Preferences.
  3. Listing Export Limit: Maximum number of listings that can be exported will be increased from 1500 to 5000
